Originally hailing from the vibrant culinary landscape of India, Indisches Butter Chicken aus dem Ofen (Indian Oven-Baked Butter Chicken) is a much-loved dish worldwide. This delectable poultry treat was crafted at the invention of the tandoor, a classic Indian oven. With mouthwatering flavors of butter, spices, and the smoky aroma from the oven, this dish has carved its way into the hearts of food lovers across the globe.
Ingredients:
- 500g chicken thigh fillets
- 150g plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon cumin powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 2 tablespoons garam masala
- 1 tablespoon chilli powder (optional)
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 400g can of tomato purée
- 100g butter
- 100ml heavy cream
- Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
Preparation:
- Prepare the Base: Begin by marinating the chicken thigh fillets with yogurt, ginger, garlic, turmeric, cumin, coriander, paprika, garam masala, chilli powder (if using), and salt. Make sure all the chicken pieces are well coated with the marinade. Leave this in the refrigerator for at least one hour, or ideally overnight. Preheat the oven at 180 degrees Celsius. Arrange the marinated chicken pieces on a baking tray and drizzle with vegetable oil. Bake for around 20 minutes or until the chicken is thoroughly cooked. Meanwhile, in a large pan, melt the butter and sauté the chopped onion until lightly golden. Add the tomato purée and cook until it thickens. Add the baked chicken pieces into the pan and stir well, ensuring the chicken is fully coated with the sauce.
- Serve and Garnish: Add the heavy cream to the pan and mix until well combined. Cook for another 2-3 minutes on low heat. Adjust the seasoning if required. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves. Serve the Indisches Butter Chicken aus dem Ofen hot, ideally with naan bread or steamed basmati rice.
Tip:
Marinating the chicken overnight allows the flavors to penetrate the meat better, rendering it more flavorful and tender. If you find the dish too spicy, adjust the amount of chilli powder to your preference. Remember, the key to a delicious Butter Chicken is a well-balanced blend of spices.
